Federico Bernardeschi downplays comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo and plays up Italy’s Under-21 test against Slovakia.

The Azzurrini are favourites to book at place at Euro 2015 during this international break, as they face Slovakia in the play-off qualification round.

However, just as Coach Luigi Di Biagio has warned of their opponents’ strength, so too has Bernardeschi.

The Azzurrini are favourites to book at place at Euro 2015 during this international break, as they face Slovakia in the play-off qualification round.

However, just as Coach Luigi Di Biagio has warned of their opponents’ strength, so too has Bernardeschi.

“The Coach is right,” the Fiorentina forward has told Vivoazzurro.it today.

“We will face Slovakia with the right motivation, and will be bold to impose our game and, most importantly, we will have to run so much.

“For me, it is a pride to wear the blue shirt. I will always give my best and try to do my best for the Under-21s, who everyone must run through in order to achieve the dream of playing for the senior national team.

“For the fans at Reggio Emilia I ask you to come to the stadium to support us – it is always nice to see Italy play!”

Bernardeschi was asked about comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo.

“You must be joking, the comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo seems excessive to me. In any case, from when I was young I was crazy about Shevchenko and Totti, who for me, is above everyone else.

“What could I take from him if I could? Next to my left foot I would like his right foot. I would say that couldn’t hurt!”
