Silvio Berlusconi has been admitted to intensive care at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan after repeated cardiovascular issues.

The Monza President had spent three nights in the same hospital last week for what were described as ‘medical checks’ and was discharged last Thursday.

According to reports from ANSA, the former Prime Minister and ex-Milan chief arrived at the hospital with a shortness of breath and underwent a CT scan and is currently awaiting further results from the examinations.

Berlusconi had previously undergone open heart surgery in 2016 to replace his aortic valve, from which he made a good recovery.

A visit from Berlusconi’s daughter, Marina is expected imminently.

The 86-year-old has not been without health problems in recent years and has had various stints in hospital in recent months.

The most recent of those came as recently as last week, after which Berlusconi posted a message of gratitude to his supporters, particularly those who had sent their best wishes.

On Thursday, Berlusconi wrote: “I thank all those who have wanted to dedicate a thought of closeness and affection to me in these recent days. I have already returned to work, ready and determined to commit myself, as I always have, to the country I love.”
