Milan President Silvio Berlusconi discussed Mario Balotelli, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Andrea Bertolacci and Jeremy Menez.

The patron spoke to reporters after a visit to the team’s Milanello training ground and revealed their tactical problems were caused by injuries.

“Menez has this back problem and it’s a real shame. We thought that he would play behind the new Balotelli and Carlos Bacca to create a new attacking trident.

“They were meant to play close together, just six or seven metres apart, with Mario no longer wandering around on the wings the way he did in the past. We were really counting on Menez as a trequartista.

“We were supposed to have an attacking propensity that would last throughout the game. Milan must step on to the field with absolute confidence, because the mission is always to own the game and take the initiative. We must always go out there to win.”

There could be a new addition in January, as Boateng has been training with Milan for a few weeks now after his Schalke 04 split.

“Boateng can shoot from any position and is structured to be a great centre-forward. His knees are fine, but a contract depends on the responses his body gives. I’ve always liked him.”

The Rossoneri spent €20m over the summer on Roma midfielder Bertolacci, who struggled to make an impact.

“He has improved a great deal,” continued Berlusconi. “We spoke and I told him we were expecting a different Bertolacci from the one who turned up, but on Sunday he changed gear.

“Genoa tell me he struggled at the start of their season too and would emerge from October onwards. October is over now, so…”

Berlusconi was asked about the imminent sale of 48 per cent of the club to ‘Mr Bee’ Taechaubol.

“I read some horrifying things, including attacks from certain papers suggesting Bee’s money was just my capital based abroad. I repeat, if anyone is able to prove that I have capital outside the country and am trying to bring it back in, then I’ll give away 10 times that sum to charity.”
