Silvio Berlusconi says he now wants the Scudetto and the Champions League with Monza: ‘I am accustomed to winning…’

The Biancorossi gained the first Serie A promotion in their history after a 4-3 win over Pisa last night.

They are the third and last team climbing to Italy’s top flight this season after Cremonese and Lecce.

“We thought we would make it last year, but we were unlucky. This time, we fought for the entire season. It wasn’t easy, but we made it and we are in Serie A,” Berlusconi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s amazing for a club like Monza, founded in 1912, to gain promotion after 110 years. It’s extraordinary for all the citizens of Monza and Brianza. It’s one of the most industrious provinces in Italy, with more than 70,000 entrepreneurs. All of them are very happy with what we have achieved.”

Monza fans went wild, both at the Stadio Arena Garibaldi in Pisa and in the streets of Monza, where thousands of supporters watched the game on a big screen placed in one of the central squares of the city.

They sang songs for Berlusconi, begging him to achieve an even bigger feat next season, bringing the club to Europe.

“Being in Serie A, we must win the Scudetto and go to the Champions League and win it too. I am accustomed to winning all the time, so let’s see,” said Berlusconi, who ended the interview by summing up the 2021-22 campaign, which was extremely positive for him.

“This was an extraordinary year with good results for the heart: Milan became Serie A champions and Monza were promoted to Serie A,” he said smiling.

Berlusconi is the most winning president in the history of Milan, having conquered 29 titles in 31 years, including eight Serie A titles and five Champions League.

  1. I wonder if Ladi’s statement was also common when he took over Milan in 1986?

Of course time has changed and he probably wont have the same financial power as he did back then, but this guy, love him or hate him, at least knows how to build a club.

  2. Well let’s just sum his words up, He wants to win Serie A and the champions league with Monza. If memory serves me he sold Milan citing a lack of money to compete with the Clubs backed with Oil magnate money, Rich Oligarchs and the Saudi Royal family. So what’s changed?

  3. @Bunga2, Milan had already won Serie A and Champions League multiple times by 1986. It’s not even a comparable to Monza.

@Dazziano, exactly. He couldn’t do it anymore with Milan, a club with built-in history, profile and fan-base (all of which = income streams), so he’s now going to do what he couldn’t do there at Monza? No, this sound more like he’s getting ready for another run at the prime ministership, not Serie A. Hi Monza, this is what if feels to be a political tool…
