Inter and Italy legend Beppe Bergomi believes if Antonio Conte can win silverware for Tottenham Hotspur, it will go down as ‘his greatest achievement.’

Conte has already won the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea, four Serie A titles between Juventus and Inter and two Italian Supercups.

He had originally rejected the Spurs job over the summer, only to change his mind when Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked.

“I don’t think Conte can win anything this season, but if he was to win a trophy at Tottenham this year or the next, it would go down as his greatest achievement, in my view,” former defender and current pundit Bergomi said on Sky Sport Italia.

“In the other clubs he worked at, there was already some sort of winning tradition. How long as it been since Tottenham won the League?

“I would count the League, but also the Europa or Conference League counts as a trophy, the way I see success.”

Tottenham won the English title in 1951 and 1961, decades before it was changed to the English Premier League.

Their most recent piece of silverware was the League Cup in 2007-08, while the last FA Cup was won in 1990-91.

When it comes to European success, the only cups won by Spurs on the continent were the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1962-62, plus two editions of the UEFA Cup in 1971-72 and 1983-84.

Conte’s Scudetto triumph last season allowed Inter to end their 11-year absence as Serie A champions.

  1. Who cares – can we stop talking about the premier league on this Serie A forum? The Premier league doesn’t need any more publicity.
