Inter and Italy legend Beppe Bergomi gives his verdict on West Ham United after the Conference League Final victory over Fiorentina. ‘This is not a team that really plays football.’

The Viola dominated possession throughout the game in Prague, with more total attempts, more attacks and 412 passes to 156 completed.

“West Ham win playing a 1970s style of football, a really frankly embarrassing style of football,” said Sky Sport Italia commentator Massimo Marianella.

In the studio, 1982 World Cup winning defender Bergomi was equally unimpressed with the output that allowed the Premier League side to lift the trophy.

“This is not a team that really plays football, it scores mainly on set plays and dead ball situations, counter-attacks. The penalty came from a throw-in. They did not change their style, all it takes is one through ball times well,” said Bergomi.

“Fiorentina played better, had more possession, but didn’t have enough shots on goal. West Ham are more experienced and clinical.”

Cristiano Biraghi’s handling offence allowed Said Benrahma to convert a penalty, which was cancelled out by the quality Giacomo Bonaventura finish.

However, Jarrod Bowen sprung the offside trap in the final minute to secure a 2-1 victory for David Moyes and his side.

  1. But IF his team win despite being totally dominated at the weekend, I’m sure he win sing a completely different tune. He isn’t wrong. But Fiorentina sadly didn’t seem prepared for this occasion.
