Former Italy defender Giuseppe Bergomi said England are now the ‘favourites to reach the Final’ of EURO 2020, but warns the Three Lions of the heat in Rome.

England overcame Germany with a famous 2-0 win at Wembley on Tuesday and have yet to concede in the European Championship this summer.

Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane scored the goals against Die Mannschaft and the English fans are now dreaming of a successful run to the Final in London.

Bergomi pointed out that the English side ‘deserved’ to advance and praised Gareth Southgate’s men after a convincing performance.

“They deserved to go through to the next round,” Bergomi told Sky Sport Italia. “They are a solid, compact and united team.”

However, the former Inter player then warned England of the heat in Rome, where they are scheduled to play in the quarter-final on Saturday, July 3.

The Three Lions, who have scored four goals in four games, have played all their fixtures in London so far and Bergomi believes the climate in Italy will surprise the players.

“The physique and the climate could be decisive. In London they play in cooler temperature, in Rome they will find great heat.

“But they are certainly the favourites to reach the Final.”
