Inter legend Giuseppe Bergomi highlighted Jose Mourinho’s long-term desire to win the Europa Conference League with Roma ahead of their semi-final against Leicester City.

The Giallorossi will face the Foxes in the first league of their semi-finals tonight at the King Power Stadium. The return leg will be played on May 5 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Roma have only picked up one point from their last two league outings but it’s clear that Mourinho is aiming to crown off his debut season in Rome with a trophy.

Speaking with Sky Sports Italia, Bergomi discussed Mourinho’s ambitions to bring silverware to the Italian capital.

“He has wanted the Conference League ever since he took over Roma. He has respected it, at the beginning he had the bad defeat against Bodo/Glimt but then with determination and results Roma were reborn.

“Even against Bodo/Glimt in the quarter-finals the team played well, both characteristically and tactically.”

Roma sparked a surprise rivalry with Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League this season, failing to beat the Norwegian club in three of their four attempts. It was the perfect advertisement for the new competition, showing how teams still care about the tournament even if it’s a little less prestigious than the Europa League or Champions League.
