Inter legend Beppe Bergomi believes money is ‘not all that matters,’ so Marcelo Brozovic should sign a contract extension with Inter also for his sense of belonging to the club.

Brozovic sees his contract expire at the end of the season and Inter are in talks to extend his stay at the club.

Inter director Beppe Marotta has insisted that Brozovic will eventually sign a contract extension with the Nerazzurri despite multiple reports linking the 29-year-old with a free move to Newcastle or Tottenham.

Inter are open to offering him a pay rise on his current €3.5m-a-year deal, but haven’t yet secured a deal with the Croatia international.

Brozovic admits he wants Inter stay amid Tottenham and Newcastle links

“Brozovic is irreplaceable for Inzaghi, there isn’t another player who can do the same he does,” Bergomi told Tuttosport.

“How many midfielders are similar to Brozovic in Europe? The club must give him the right motivation, he’s been here for a long time.

“It’s not about the money, he is in a big club and he can become a Bandiera, it’s not always about the money,” the former defender added.

“Sometimes, you have to feel the shirt and identify yourself with a prestigious club such as Inter. That’s what Brozovic needs to understand.”

The 29-year-old seems keen to remain at San Siro, as he recently admitted via social media.

Bergomi spent his entire career at Inter playing 757 games across all competitions with the Nerazzurri.

He won one Serie A title, one Italian Super Cup, one Coppa Italia, three UEFA Cups and the 1982 World Cup with Italy.
