Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi praised Napoli’s work in the transfer market and their addition of Kim Min-Jae.

The Partenopei had an interesting summer, losing a number of first team regulars like Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens, bringing in younger options like Kvara Kvaratskhelia, Kim and Giacomo Raspadori to replace them.

Initial signs suggest that this was a stroke of genius as Napoli now sit top of the table in Serie A and also at the summit of their Champions League group.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Bergomi first discussed the strong worked carried out by Napoli and Milan in the transfer market.

“We all had reservations about the change in the squad, but in this change Napoli have improved. Insigne left and Kvaratskhelia came in.

“Napoli and Milan are the two teams that have intercepted, more than others, the change, where football is going.

“One-on-one, beating the man, speed, physical strength and insertions. The team plays well, but that gives you added value.”

The Inter legend then had high praise for Kim and compared him to Napoli’s former defensive rock Kalidou Koulibaly.

“But I still focus on the defence, because we all had doubts about Kim after the talisman was gone. I call him soldier boy, he’s there and he never makes mistakes.

“Maybe in the build-up he is less strong than Koulibaly, but defensively he is more careful. And that for a defender is very important.

“A defender must always get 6, 6 and a half rating, he must never make mistakes. He’ll also make mistakes, but that’s where there were the biggest doubts and this guy is doing well.”

The 25-year-old Kim has immediately impressed in the Campania capital after joining from Fenerbahce in the summer, proving a calm and intelligent defender with strong positioning and tackling skills.
