Despite the shortage of options due to injury, suspension and COVID-19, Antonio Conte still seems certain to leave Eriksen on the bench.
“Eriksen will always be a problem for Inter and the questions on why he isn’t playing will always be there,” Bergomi told Radio Deejay.
“Antonio Conte gave the best possible response, but we should ask ourselves if Eriksen really does have the talent to dominate in Serie A? I have never been convinced.
“Nicolò Barella is currently the best midfielder at Inter and he will take the trequartista role today against Milan. Eriksen can be an alternative option.
“We have to wait and see if the Dane’s mentality changes. He wouldn’t be the first to struggle in Serie A and shine in the Premier League, such as Gianfranco Zola and Dennis Bergkamp.”
How does former defender and 1982 World Cup winner Bergomi see today’s Derby della Madonnina going?
“Achraf Hakimi and Theo Hernandez represent one of the many duels we’ll see around the pitch. These two teams have very strong identities and I am not sure Inter really are stronger than Milan in a one-off match. Maybe over the long run during the season, they are, but it’s a derby and that’s always up for grabs. I expect a draw.”
