Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi has claimed the Nerazzurri could have lost the Serie A title last season ‘waiting for Christian Eriksen.’

The Dane joined Inter from Tottenham in January 2020 but according to various reports in Italy he is set to leave Milan in the winter transfer window due to lack of game time.

“Eriksen is a tricky talking point for me,” Bergomi told Sky Sport.

“I’ve always thought he is not a champion, he is a good player who is not suitable for Serie A and Antonio Conte's football.”

The Italian tactician subbed him in in the final five minutes of Inter games against Real Madrid and Bologna last week.

“I don’t want to speak about this, I don’t know the situation,” Bergomi added.

“I know Inter have lost time, and maybe even a Serie A title, trying to help Eriksen to settle in. Conte threw in an attacking midfielder and lost something from [Lautaro] Martinez. He stopped after a while and returned to a 3-5-2 system.”
