Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has given his approval to the “impressive” signing of defender Milan Skriniar.

Skriniar joined Inter from Sampdoria for a reported €18m plus Gianluca Caprari earlier in the summer to some uncertainty, but the Slovak has won praise for his preseason performances with the Nerazzurri.

“Have Inter done well to sign him? I was impressed by his signing,” Bergomi, a former stopper himself, told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I knew from the moment of his arrival that he could offer [Inter] some interesting characteristics and qualities.

“Working under Marco Giampaolo helpful? Definitely because it’s a good experience for defenders.

“You have to work on so many aspects [as a defender] and you have to be like a sponge to absorb them to the fullest.

“I know [Giampaolo’s] methods of work well, having personally followed him in the past.

“Now [Skriniar] will work under Luciano Spalletti who’s known to improve players.

“Skriniar’s playing style? He’s a careful defender, he applies himself, he knows how to get the ball out of defence quickly and he also plays the ball forward.

“He still has to work to improve in some respects, though. Preseason football is one thing, the League campaign is another.

“I’m curious to see him against top strikers and watch him in one-on-ones at speed.

“Partnership with Miranda? They can be very good together and a well-matched pair. Skriniar can take on a bit of Joao [Miranda’s] work in setting up play.”
