Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi said Matteo Darmian’s contribution against Hellas Verona ‘underlines the important work’ of coach Antonio Conte.

The former Juventus coach insisted he wants to stay with the Beneamata after having edged closer to the Scudetto with a 1-0 win over the Gialloblu on Sunday.
Summer signing Darmian scored the decider and Bergomi pointed at the great work done by Conte, stressing the coach has ‘always managed to get out’ of the difficult times.
“Conte’s spirit is 360 degrees,” Bergomi told Sky Sport Italia. “He exalts and gets the most out of all the players.
“The team spirit that comes out now is there for everyone to see, from how they hug and celebrate.
“Maybe it’s easier now, because they have the target right there, but it’s a job that starts from the beginning, over two years.
“Conte has had ups and downs, let’s not forget Inter struggled at certain times, but they always managed to get out of it.
“But Darmian and the other players who start from behind gave their contribution. You can see the strength of the group.
“It underlines Conte’s work that, knowing the environment at Inter, was very important.”
Inter sit 11 points above Atalanta in second, ahead of Milan's trip to Lazio on Monday night. With a win, the Rossoneri can cut the gap to 10 points with five games remaining.
