Former Inter captain Giuseppe Bergomi was satisfied with the 2-0 win over Viktoria Plzen, although he was not sold on the work done by Nicolo Barella.

The Nerazzurri did not fall into any traps against their Czech opposition yesterday, securing a comfortable victory away from home to finally pick up some points in the Champions League following a painful 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich in their European opener. Simone Inzaghi’s side reached the Round of 16 in the competition last season, something they’re hoping to match or improve upon this year.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bergomi discussed the performances of a number of Inter players in their 2-0 win over Viktoria Plzen.

“I’d like to point out that Acerbi was the best on the pitch, alongside Brozovic and Dzeko. I wasn’t convinced by Barella, I have too much respect for him to be satisfied.

“He looks a bit drained to me, without the change of pace that makes him a top player. It’s as if he lacks the spark.”

He also had high praise for Armenian veteran Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has not yet directly contributed to a goal for the Nerazzurri.

“Great player, Inzaghi will find a way to bring him closer to the goal.”

The 25-year-old Barella does look a little tired in the early stages of this season, having put in an incredible shift under Inzaghi last term; the former Cagliari man made 48 appearances across all competitions, playing 3934 minutes of action across the campaign.
