Domenico Berardi has effectively confirmed he is staying at Sassuolo by taking on the Number 10 jersey this season.

The winger turns 28 next week and spent practically his entire career with the Neroverdi, famously turning down a move to Juventus when he was in a co-ownership deal with them because he did not feel ready.

Last summer, Berardi had asked to be released for a bigger club and was close to Fiorentina, but nobody was prepared to meet the €40m asking price.

Juventus and Milan were also linked this summer, but again none of the proposals came close to the demand.

It would seem that Berardi has decided to commit himself to Sassuolo again with news he has changed shirt number to 10 from his traditional 25.

After selling Gianluca Scamacca to West Ham United for €36m plus €6m in add-ons and a 10 per cent cut of the sell-on fee, Sassuolo are unlikely to part with their most representative player too.
