“Last season was undoubtedly one of growth and I matured along with Sassuolo, so I am happy to have another year of growth here ahead of me,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am pleased to be in this group and hope to repeat the good work I did last term and, why not, even improve.

“I don’t have any particular preferences on my tactical role. I don’t mind being on the right, left or as a trequartista, I just try to adapt to what the Coach asks of me.”

Berardi impressed at the Under-21 European Championship, but is widely expected to step up to senior level.

“I am focused only on doing well with Sassuolo. If I continue that form, then hopefully I’ll get a call from Antonio Conte. I live in hope.”
