Domenico Berardi has fuelled reports of a new approach from Lazio or Juventus after casting doubt over his Sassuolo status. ‘I don’t know if I will be here this season.’

The Italy international has spent his entire career at the Mapei Stadium, even once rejecting a move to Juve in his youth, and only recently signed a new contract to June 2027.

However, he continues to leave the door open to a potential exit in the final weeks of the transfer window.

“Thank you all for the good wishes,” said the 29th birthday boy at an evening presenting the Sassuolo squad to their fans.

“I have been here for many years and it makes me proud to feel this warmth from the supporters. We hope the team does better than last season, because we didn’t start strong and then did something extraordinary in the second half.

“There are many young players and I am sure we will do well. But I don’t know if I will be here this season.”

Reports have continually stated that Berardi is one of the targets wanted by Maurizio Sarri at Lazio, although the club seems to have no intention of going near the €25-30m asking price.

Juventus are also linked with the 29-year-old, who has 25 senior caps for Italy and has scored six goals, taking part in the EURO 2020 winning campaign.
