Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur believes the Scudetto is still ‘within reach’ and said Cristiano Ronaldo ‘feels bad when he doesn’t score’.
The Bianconeri picked up three important points with a 3-1 win over Genoa on Sunday, but Bentancur admitted the team’s performance dropped in the second half.
“In the first half we did very well in terms of mentality,” Bentancur told Sky Sport Italia. “We improved a lot, but we still have to get better. In the second half we dropped, we handed them the ball and conceded a goal.
“We know we have to do the work in the first half during the whole game. Pirlo hasn’t told anything about this now, but he will for sure do it on Tuesday, when we are back in training.”
Bentancur said he felt good in the last two games and stressed the next match against Atalanta will be ‘important’ in the Champions League battle.
“Against Napoli and Genoa I felt good, I know I have to improve and I want to continue on this path,” Bentancur added. “It will be very important against Atalanta, a tough challenge.
“They are there with us and want to qualify for the Champions League. In any case, even the Scudetto, even if it’s far away, is mathematically still within our reach.
“We must continue to win every game in order to reach the maximum at the end of the season.”
Cristiano Ronaldo was angry and threw away the shirt after the final whistle, but Bentancur stressed he was only angry ‘towards himself’.
“It’s his mentality, thanks to which he has become one of the best in the world,” the midfielder continued. “When he doesn’t score, he feels bad.
“Not towards the team, but towards himself. He wants to be able to score every game. We are happy with the work he does, and we hope he will be able to score next time.”
