The Uruguay international sat down with Sky Sport Italia to look back over his 2020, which culminated in a shock 3-0 home defeat to Fiorentina.

“We had played the previous games with such a strong mentality, but that simply wasn’t the case against Fiorentina,” confessed Bentancur.

“This game showed us that we have to face each and every fixture with the right mentality from the first minute, otherwise we’ll get trampled.”

These results have left Juve in sixth place with a game in hand to be played against Napoli.

“We’re still in the race for the Scudetto, we know that. Even before I arrived, I know there were times when Juve were 10 points off the leaders and still won the title.

“After every match, we need to already begin to focus on the next test. This is the mind-set we need to win it all.”

It has also been a tricky approach to new Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo.

“Having a coach like Pirlo is an honour for us,” assured Bentancur.

“Glancing over at the bench and seeing him there is special for us. I know we have a long way to go, but we’ve got to build on his vision. I tell the Juve fans to relax, we’ll always be there challenging for the Scudetto.”

It was a rough 2020 for many families and it was no different for Bentancur, who revealed a personal tragedy.

“We have to live every day as if it were our last, that is what I learned this year,” added the player.

“A few days ago, my cousin dies in Buenos Aires, he was the same age as me. I realised you never know what could happen and you must live every day as if it was your last. Also, tell your family how much you love them, because that is very important.”
