Ex-Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur suddenly fell to the ground during the first half of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semifinal first-leg against Liverpool and left the pitch on a stretcher.

Bentancur ‘conscious’ after collapsing on the pitch during Liverpool game

The Uruguayan attempted to reach a ball from a corner before collapsing on the pitch in the sixth minute, sparking worries among players around him.

Medical staff rushed onto the field and treated him for around nine minutes, during which the 27-year-old received oxygen before being stretchered off, as he was replaced by Brennan Johnson.

Tottenham later confirmed that Bentancur was ‘conscious’, ‘talking’ and set to be taken to the hospital for ‘further checks’.

The Uruguay international moved to the Premier League in January of 2022, completing a move from Juventus after four and a half seasons at the club during which he won the Serie A title three times.

Bentancur played 133 league games with the Bianconeri, scoring two goals, less than he netted in the last domestic campaign with Tottenham (5).
