Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer said he’s ‘proud to have made my Champions League debut’ in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday. ‘We are disappointed, but we must look forward’.

The Rossoneri ended up losing the thriller at Anfield, but gave the Reds a fight when they turned the game around towards the end of the first half.

Champions League | Liverpool 3-2 Milan: Anfield thriller

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored after only nine minutes and when the referee gave Bennacer a yellow card for handball and awarded Liverpool a penalty in the 13th minute, it seemed set to be a long night on Merseyside.

But Mike Maignan saved the effort, before Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz turned the game around in one minute and 48 seconds towards the end of the first half.

Liverpool bounced back immediately after the break and scored twice in the second half. Despite the disappointment, Bennacer stressed the Diavolo ‘must look forward’.

“I’m proud to have made my Champions League debut,” he wrote on Twitter. “We are disappointed, but we have to look forward.

“The road is still long!”

Next up in the Champions League is a match against Atletico Madrid at San Siro on September 28.

  1. Third Liverpool goal was his mistake. He cleared the ball to right outside the 18-yard-box under no pressure. Injuries have seriously halted his development. Tonali should be above him in the pecking order right now imo.

  2. I like Bennacer but Tonali right now should be playing with Kessie. However-on Kessie-he did not have his best match yesterday.
