Latest reports suggest that Ismael Bennacer will need an operation to resolve the knee injury he suffered in Milan’s Champions League loss to Inter.

The 25-year-old Algerian midfielder, who is a key figure in Stefano Pioli’s squad, was forced off the pitch after just 18 minutes of the Rossoneri’s European Derby della Madonnina clash with the Nerazzurri, an absence that was painfully felt by his teammates.

Fans were immediately concerned and these fears only grew after reports noted that Bennacer left the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in crutches, clearly struggling with the injury.

As reported by Calciomercato.com and TMW, medical tests carried out today confirmed that Bennacer suffered a post-traumatic cartilage injury to the lateral femoral condyle of his right knee, an injury that’ll require arthroscopic surgery.

The 25-year-old is now expected to be ruled out of action for a number of months and will certainly miss the end of this season. The operation could be carried out as early as Saturday, allowing him to quickly begin his recovery.

  1. If it is only keyhole surgery that is required, then he might indeed miss the rest of the season but definitely not a ‘number of months’. Worst case scenario, he should be back training within a month.
