Ismael Bennacer says Milan ‘did what the coach asked of us’ in the Champions League victory over Napoli, but they always knew it would go down to the second leg.
The all-Italian Champions League quarter-final first leg was decided by Bennacer’s first ever goal in the competition, finishing off a rapid Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao counter-attack.
“We worked hard, did what the coach asked of us and it worked,” Bennacer told Amazon Prime Italia.
“There is still another match to be played, we’ve also got Bologna in three days and need to recover in the best way, do everything together.
“It was a good attitude, we’ve got to continue like this.”
This is the second Milan victory in the space of 10 days against Napoli, as they also won 4-0 at the Stadio Maradona in Serie A.
It seems that these two games have sparked a reaction in the Champions of Italy after a poor period of form.
“Maybe we suffered a bit too much at the start, but then sorted ourselves out and covered every man. As time wore on, we tried to keep more of the ball.
“There are regrets we didn’t score more, but we knew anyway it would go down to the second leg.”
