‘Benitez is still in charge for now…’

Inter President Massimo Moratti has once again told reporters that Rafa Benitez is still in a job at least for now.

Speculation is mounting that Inter are working on severing ties with Benitez after the deterioration of his relationship with Moratti.

Leonardo is widely regarded as the favourite to replace him on the Inter bench.

"Absolutely nothing is expected today," Moratti said when asked whether Benitez has been dismissed.

"I haven't had chance to hear from anyone."

Pressed on whether Inter are merely sorting out a compensation package for Benitez, he said: "No, we are looking to understand. This is a problem that needs unraveling.

"It has been quite surprising and it's clear that we are looking at it from this point of view."

Moratti took one final question, which simply asked whether Benitez is still nominally in charge.

"For now he is still there."
