Benfica are said to be facing competition from arch-rivals Porto in the race for Inter’s Gabigol.

The Brazilian forward is all but certain to leave the San Siro on loan this transfer deadline day.

A host of potential destinations had been touted, but it appeared that Portuguese champions Benfica had won the race for the 21-year-old’s signature.

However, A Bola report that their domestic rivals Porto are still hoping to persuade the former Santos player to join them instead.

Benfica have reportedly agreed to pay Gabigol’s wages in their entirety during his loan spell, so Porto would presumably have to match that offer if they are to have any chance of being successful in landing their target.

Gabigol arrived at Inter last summer with a reputation as one of the hottest young prospects in world football.

However, a disappointing debut campaign in Serie A means he is set to leave temporarily in order to get regular game time.
