Benevento are reportedly punishing their players and coach for relegation by forcing them to travel 12 hours by bus to their final game against Torino.

Le Streghe had hoped to fight it out with Toro for their safety in the last match, but the Granata’s 0-0 draw with Lazio on Tuesday rendered it futile.

According to Calciomercato.com, President Oreste Vigorito did not take it well and decided he would not pay for the plane tickets this weekend.

Instead, he’s forcing the squad and coach Pippo Inzaghi to travel 12 hours by bus from Benevento to Turin, practically the entire length of mainland Italy.

The report also states this was suggested by an ultras group in the Curva Sud, who complained a rumours Benevento would send the Primavera youth team to play.

“We do not agree,” read their statement. “The team travelled all season in comfortable charter flights. We hope this time they can go in a ‘modest’ team bus.’

Benevento were promoted from Serie B last summer and had an excellent first half to the season, sitting in 10th place.

However, since the midway stage they managed only one victory – away to Juventus – seven draws and 10 defeats.
