Le Streghe were 3-0 down at half-time to Fiorentina with a Dusan Vlahovic hat-trick, then seemed like a totally different team after the break.

They scored a goal, came very close to 3-2, before capitulating 4-1.

“It’s right at this moment that the team and coach isolate themselves, focus on the issues we need to resolve and try to lock out what’s coming in from the outside,” Foggia told Sky Sport Italia when he arrived for the interviews rather than coach Inzaghi.

“I can confirm that the team will go into a training retreat from tomorrow, because the situation has been dragging on for a while now. It’s evident there are difficulties, and I feel they are psychological more than physical or tactical, because it’s the same team as in the first half of the season, but the performances are completely different.

“The coach, directors, players, we are all in the same boat and as men we need to look each other in the eye to find a way out of this situation.

“Considering our target, 26 points is not bad at this stage of the season. However, there are ways of not getting points and failing to react at all until we’re 3-0 down is not acceptable. There are ways to lose and this is not one of them.

“Everyone is upset right now, so I would prefer for them to stay together and understand why these performances have been happening.”

Foggia acknowledged it was a bad performance, the latest of many, but was also irritated at penalty appeals for a Martin Caceres handling offence.

“I don’t want to seek alibis, but it’s obvious that if we have VAR, it should be used. You might not give a penalty, but at least have the referee look at it.

“We have this instrument and it would be right to use it. Caceres had his arm detached from the body, at the very least it should’ve been looked at.

“There was also a shirt-tug on Adolfo Gaich, but he’s young and naïve. If he’d let himself fall, it would’ve been a clear penalty.”
