Mehdi Benatia says he has received ‘so many insults’ from Roma fans since the club’s fall-out with him over his Bayern Munich move.
The defender commented soon after completing his deal that the Giallorossi sold him against his will, as they needed the money, to prompt a strongly-worded response from President James Pallotta.
Speaking after his new side’s last-gasp win over Manchester City, as part of the same group that Roma are in, the 27-year-old took a new angle.
“The Press have done everything for us to arrive at this point,” Benatia explained to Sky Sport Italia last night.
“In Rome I have many friends, I consider myself a fan of the club, whilst now I am just focused on Bayern Munich.
“I received so many insults from my former fans, I have been described as a bad person. I sleep well, I’m in a great team.
“I am happy that Roma have started the season well in the League and in the Champions League.”
