Medhi Benatia is reportedly ready to take a 25 per cent pay cut so he can leave Bayern Munich for a return to Roma.

These rumours have been circulating for several months and his lack of playing time in Germany is adding to the frustration.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the 28-year-old defender is prepared to reduce his wages to under €3m per season in order to push the transfer through.

There are still issues, as Bayern seem unwilling to release Benatia on loan with an option to buy.

He would also be ineligible for the Champions League this season.

Roma made a huge profit on Benatia, buying him from Udinese for €13.5m in July 2013 and selling him to Bayern Munich a year later for €28m plus bonuses.

It would be a defeat for the Bundesliga giants to hand him back to his former club.
