The transfer window is closed, but players can still move within Serie A if they are free agents, so Fiorentina terminated their contract with Marco Benassi.

The midfielder turns 29 next week and had been on the Viola books since leaving Torino for €12m in the summer of 2017.

He had loan experiences at Verona, Empoli and Cremonese, but was not part of coach Vincenzo Italiano’s plans.

With no transfer found for him before last night’s deadline, Benassi today formally terminated his contract with Fiorentina by mutual consent.

He is now a free agent and can negotiate a move to another club.

Benassi has 231 Serie A appearances under his belt, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.
