Fiorentina midfielder Marco Benassi believes he is deserving of his Italy call-up. “I’m playing‘the best football of my career.”
Benassi was one of several uncapped players selected for Italy’s Nations League openers against Poland and Portugal, his three goals for Fiorentina seeing him top the scoring charts alongside Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek.
“I’m playing the best football of my career and I hope it continues with my team,” the 23-year-old said at a Press conference.

“The objective we’ve given ourselves is to improve on last season’s eighth-place finish, so we’re hoping to qualify for Europe.
“Our strength is the group, the tragedy of Astori brought us closer than ever. Before that he was at the forefront of our squad, so we all had to give more. He drives us on.
The former Torino man then had his say on being cleared of blasphemy.
“It was an expletive,” he explained.
“I don’t usually express myself in that manner. I haven’t even watched the video, but the images verified what happened and the case is closed.”
