Although the injury is not expected to be serious, the 23-year-old may well sit out Giampiero Ventura’s team’s World Cup qualifying fixtures as a precaution.

Regardless of the Azzurri’s results against the two Balkan nations, it seems certain that they will have to face a play-off in order to guarantee their place at next summer’s tournament in Russia.

Should Belotti miss out on the international double header, it has been suggested that Chievo's Roberto Inglese will replace him in the squad.
