Free agent Andrea Belotti is reportedly heading towards Roma, where he will replace Eldor Shomurodov, close to Torino or Bologna.

The former Toro captain has been out of contract since June 30, but faced relatively few firm offers to continue his career this season.

He seems eager to remain in Serie A and now there are suggestions from Radio Radio, Goal.com and Calciomercato.com that Belotti has given the all-clear to join Roma.

It is claimed Jose Mourinho spoke personally to Belotti over the telephone to explain the project and assure him that he would get some playing time, despite the presence of Tammy Abraham, Paulo Dybala and Nicolò Zaniolo.

Belotti can only arrive if Shomurodov is released, as the Uzbekistan international has been heavily linked with a move to Torino – where he funnily enough would fill the gap left by Il Gallo.

Another option has emerged, with Bologna also showing interest in Shomurodov.

  1. I’m a bit surprised Belotti hasn’t definitively found a new team yet. Roma colors would suit him fine, and his physical presence on one attacking side may play off nicely from Abraham’s speed.

  2. this is what greed does. Torino received offers near the ridiculous areas of 70-80M but they still wanted more for him, although he basically then was a one-season wonder and nothing more. Looking how bad he performs at bigger stages such as the national team, every single % left of those crazy sums is now gone. Milan wanted him badly those earlier years, even just recently, but now they even rather stick with pension home people like ibra and giroud, and I dont blame them, who says that Belotti will actually perform better than any of them, nothing backs that up, its quite incredible that he got so many chances in the national team too. Or actually thats why italy is not even in WC once again, literally, all they needed was people who could actually score…..

  3. In his best years yet, Belotti was a one man show. They never built a team around him. He wore his body down trying to do it all. I hope Roma is a good fit and he gets his game back.
