Belgium coach Roberto Martinez is happy to have Romelu Lukaku back and hopes the Inter star will be fit to start against Croatia.

The Chelsea loanee made his debut at Qatar 2022 coming off the bench in the second half of a 2-0 loss against Morocco on Sunday.

He has been struggling with injuries this season, making just five appearances for the Serie A giants before the World Cup break.

“In every team, you need your most influential players on the pitch. We are happy to have Lukaku back,” Martinez told RTBF Sport.

“The more options we have, the better. There are two training sessions left , we will see if Romelu will be able to start against Croatia.”

Lukaku made his senior debut with the Red Devils in March 2010 and has scored 68 goals in 103 games with his national team.

He made a shocking return to Inter on loan from Chelsea last summer, but his future at the Stadio Meazza remains in doubt as the Serie A giants don’t have an option to make his move permanent in 2023.

Belgium collected one win and one defeat in the first two games at Qatar 2022 and face Marcelo Brozovic’s Croatia this coming Thursday.
