“Coming back to Genoa was a huge opportunity after six difficult months for me. In all honesty, I wanted to prove that I wasn’t finished as a player,” the Swiss international told Genoa Channel.

“I want my teammates to trust me and use my experience as a rock to hold on to during difficult moments. I am not just talking about on the pitch, but off it too.

“I get along very well with coach Nicola, but that’s because we started out with a small argument. He told me what he thought, and vice-versa, we both realised at that moment that we were dealing with honest people. That is important in football.”

Just as he arrived at Genoa, Behrami managed just seven Serie A games before the lockdown.

“It was fantastic during this lockdown period for me to rediscover my love of gardening and repainting a room.”
