Italian referee Daniele Orsato will be the official in charge of the highly-anticipated Champions League Round of 16 second leg between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening.

Orsato is one of the most experienced of Italy’s current crop of referees, having taken charge of 268 matches in Serie A, as well as 46 in the Champions League.

The 47-year-old is also familiar with the international stage, having appeared in the 2020 Euros as well as the 2022 World Cup.

For his performances in Qatar in winter, Orsato was handed the Premio Internazionale Giulio Campanati, an award in recognition of the best referee at the World Cup.

The Italian has history when it comes to Bayern-PSG as well, having officiated the two sides in the 2020 Champions League final in which the Bavarians ran out 1-0 winners under Hansi Flick.

Orsato was in charge again when the two sides met in the quarter-final of the competition the following year, overseeing another 1-0 Bayern victory, although PSG would go on to win the tie on aggregate.

Bayern have won four of their five games in which Orsato has been the referee, losing the other and picking up 13 yellow cards along the way.

PSG have been victorious in four of their games involving Orsato as well, but have lost three and been on the receiving end of 17 bookings from the seven games.

Orsato will be accompanied by compatriot Paolo Valeri, who will be the Video Assistant Referee for the game in Munich on Wednesday.
