Antonio Conte is ready to return to work after a year on the sidelines and there are three paths in front of the Italian tactician – Bayern Munich, Napoli and Milan.
The 54-year-old Italian coach left Tottenham almost exactly 12 months ago after the wheels started to come off the project in North London, and he’s taken time to relax and recuperate with family after a difficult spell.
Throughout this season, Conte has been the favourite for many coaching jobs across Serie A, with Napoli the most serious about trying to snap him up. The 54-year-old made it clear that he didn’t want to join a club in the middle of the campaign, leaving things open until the summer.
Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com details how Conte is particularly interested in taking over from Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich, believing the German giants would be the best fit for his style of football and desire to immediately start winning trophies.
Conte is not Bayern’s first choice, with their sights set on Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, but he’s still sending signals to the Bavarian outfit regardless, keeping his name on the list.
Napoli president De Laurentiis knows that the coach’s ‘no’ wasn’t definitive earlier in the season and will return in the summer to try and convince him to make the jump to the Campania capital, possibly discussing his willingness to invest in the transfer market.
Regarding Milan, talks still haven’t been opened yet between the two parties, despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s belief that Conte would be the perfect choice to replace Stefano Pioli. The Rossoneri are waiting until the summer before seriously focusing on a new head coach.
