Reports are growing in Germany that Massimiliano Allegri could take over the Bayern Munich job from Hans-Dieter Flick.
The former Juventus and Milan boss has been out of work for almost two years since he was sacked, despite winning five Serie A titles in a row and reaching the Champions League Final twice.
Flick has won everything with Bayern Munich and is tempted by the opportunity to lead the German national team.
While the club waits for him to make a decision, they are looking at other options and German newspaper Bild insists Allegri is “not just considered a Plan B” by the Bayern directors.
He wouldn’t be the first Italian to lead the Bundesliga giants, as Giovanni Trapattoni is still remembered fondly, and not just for his extraordinary press conferences.
Allegri is also approached by Roma, but the latest reports in Italy claim he has turned them down.
There is still Premier League interest, as well as the remote possibility Juventus could back-track and recall him to replace Andrea Pirlo, but Bayern seems increasingly the favourite destination.
