Bayer Leverkusen won’t have Florian Wirtz for the second leg of their Europa League tie with Atalanta, as he was stretchered off in tears.
The teenager has been a breakout revelation this season and started the first leg in Bergamo, which ended 3-2 for Atalanta.
Wirtz was visibly distraught as he was stretchered off today during Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga match against FC Koln.
He seemed to sprain his knee badly and there are fears he has done serious ligament damage.
Either way, it looks as if Wirtz will not be available for the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 tie.
Full-back Jeremie Frimpong also limped off during the same match today.
