With contract talks between Inter and Alessandro Bastoni on hold, Gazzetta reports that Chelsea and Manchester City are considering signing the Italy international in the summer.

Bastoni’s contract expires in June 2024, but talks over a new deal have led nowhere so far. Gazzetta confirms there is still a considerable gap between the two parties, so the Italian centre-back could leave in the summer with 12 months left in his contract at the Stadio Meazza.

Bastoni currently earns €2.8m per season and has reportedly demanded through his agent Tullio Tinti to double his wages, reaching circa €5.5m per season. On the other hand, Inter are unwilling to offer more than €4m-a-year, so if Bastoni doesn’t sign a new contract within June, ‘nothing can be excluded’ in the summer, claims Gazzetta.

Beppe Marotta will meet the player’s representative again soon. A first meeting took place in December, but the two parties didn’t even talk about Bastoni’s potential new salary. Matteo Darmian, another client of Tinti, has recently extended his contract with Inter.

Chelsea are Manchester City are closely monitoring the situation. Pep Guardiola is said to be an admirer of Bastoni, while Chelsea emerged as an option for the 23-year-old last summer before Romelu Lukaku’s return to the Stadio Meazza.
