Alessandro Bastoni believes Inter have learned from their mistakes and will need ‘team spirit’ to stop Liverpool’s attack tomorrow night.
The Nerazzurri return to the pitch in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at Anfield Road tomorrow night. They lost the first leg in Milan 2-0 three weeks ago.
Inter and Italy defender Alessandro Bastoni faced the media at a pre-match press conference at Appiano Gentile. Just like his coach Simone Inzaghi, Bastoni also believes that the Nerazzurri deserved a different result in the first leg against the Premier League giants.
“I’d change the result because it didn’t mirror what happened in the game,” the centre-back said.
“We played a great game causing trouble for Liverpool. We have watched the game again and analysed our errors. We are motivated.”
When asked how Inter defenders can stop Liverpool strikers Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mané, Bastoni replied: “I’ve already faced top European players, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior…Salah, Mané and Jota are very strong and we’ll need team spirit.
“The game will be useful to improve and become more aware of our qualities.
“Liverpool are strong in every department, so we need to be united in nullifying their threats. We’ll try to create trouble for them as a team.
“It will be a great game. I’ve already tasted English stadiums with the national team in the summer. Luckily, the Wembley Final ended well for us. Now it’s up to my teammates and me to improve and gain awareness at a European level.”
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi had faced the media shortly before Bastoni, saying that the Nerazzurri will need to score in the first half against the Reds to keep their qualification hopes alive.
