Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni was carried off in tears during the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Roma with what appeared to be a badly-sprained ankle.
The centre-back fell very awkwardly during a leap with Nicolò Zaniolo just before half-time at San Siro this evening.
The replays suggest his right ankle turned completely the wrong way as he landed and he was visibly in pain, as teammates immediately called for a substitution.
He was carried off by two members of the medical staff and tests will be required to check the extent of the damage.
This really was not a good day for Bastoni, who had also received a two-match Serie A ban for insulting the officials and arguing with Milan left-back Theo Hernandez during the derby.
There are genuine concerns that the sprain could potentially keep him out for the Champions League Round of 16 against Liverpool next week, or even Italy’s World Cup play-offs in March.

Barella and Bastoni out v Liverpool?
Getting even worse for Inter, given the like of Ranocchia and Vidal may come in to replace them.
Inter were always lucky with injuries in that they managed to avoid any crisis in the last two seasons.
This injury will show just how good they are when they’re on an even playing field with the rest of the league in terms of injuries.

A player like Bastoni must be a starter long ago for ago for the national team. He Bastoni benched Diego Godin. He even replace him completely at Inter no discussion about that.
De ligt was already a starter for the netherlands at 17.

I agree that Inter have been very lucky the last while and this well show how good a team they are. On Bastoni, I think he has huge potential, definitely one for the future if he keeps himself well.

No worries, Dimarco has been solid as a LB, as long as he don’t play LWB but that’s why Inter brought in Gosens. And soon they’ll have Correa and Caicedo back as back-up strikers, their forwards are going to need to rest with this tight schedule coming.
