Dusan Basta admits playing in a three-man defence is “not my role” and believes Lazio are “more suited to a back-four”.

The Serbian is naturally a right-back, but played as part of a defensive three in the draw with Napoli before the international break.

“It’s definitely not my role, I’ve only done it twice in my career,” Basta admitted in a Press conference today.

The Serbian is naturally a right-back, but played as part of a defensive three in the draw with Napoli before the international break.

“It’s definitely not my role, I’ve only done it twice in my career,” Basta admitted in a Press conference today.

“I’m trying to adapt quickly though, to make myself available. Maybe with a bit of experience I can do this well too, but it’s certainly not my role.

“A good team also has to adapt sometimes. Each time you should look at how your opponent plays.

“I think we’re more suited to a back-four, but we can do well with a back-three too.”

Basta was also asked about Coach Simone Inzaghi, who was permanently appointed this summer after taking a caretaker role at the end of last season.

“He has his own characteristics, he’s not really like anyone. He’s young and is closer to our mentality, which is an advantage.

“He makes us feel calm with his methods. We can only think game-by-game and do well, so far the work has borne fruit.

“I think he’s an excellent Coach, he’s taken advantage of his chance in the best way after many years in the Primavera.

“The team doesn’t feel pressure, I don’t know if he feels it. We’re relaxed and focused on the pitch, and I think that’s one of his merits.”
