Former defender Andrea Barzagli believes Roma miss goals from Tammy Abraham, but praises Lorenzo Pellegrini: ‘I’m surprised by his consistency.’
Barzagli, a former Palermo and Juventus defender, spoke to DAZN after Roma’s 2-1 win over Cagliari on Wednesday.
José Mourinho’s side are among the top four in Serie A, but have already lost three games, including those against Lazio and Juventus.
Lorenzo Pellegri played a crucial role in Roma’s win at the Sardegna Arena with a late free-kick that gave José Mourinho’s side all three points.
“Pellegrini doesn’t miss much to become a top player,” said Barzagli.
“He is doing extraordinary things with goals and assists, Roma got three crucial points thanks to his goal, I am surprised by his consistency.”
The former Sassuolo man has eight goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions this season. He’s been far more prolific than Tammy Abraham, a former Chelsea striker, who has only scored four goals in 14 appearances so far.
“Roma are missing his goals,” Barzagli claimed.
“He helps the team, but he is not scoring many goals. The next step for Roma is now to win games against top clubs.”
They will have a chance on Sunday as they host Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Rossoneri are the Serie A table leaders, along with Napoli with 28 points in ten games. Roma sit fourth with 19 points.
