Reports suggest that the opinions of Chiellini and Gigi Buffon were also very important in Juventus' decision to open negotiations for Barzagli.

The former Palermo centre-back has also attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund and Schalke.

Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri coached Barzagli during his stint at Palermo and apparently gave Marotta the green light to sign him.

Marotta and Paratici are due to meet Wolfsburg in the next 48 hours to conclude the transfer.

It would appear Barzagli is likely to arrive on a free. Alternatively, Juventus would recommend that it be absorbed into Wolfsburg's outstanding payments for Diego.
