However, the 33-year-old has struggled in training to overcome the issue and in visiting a specialist at the weekend, had it confirmed that a stress fracture was found once more in the heel.

Setting back his planned recovery by a minimum of 30 days, Tuttosport today suggest that his situation will be carefully monitored from medical check to medical check, with a later comeback during December or January not ruled out.

It is an injury crisis at the back for Massimiliano Allegri, with Martin Caceres ruled out this week for a month and Romulo and Luca Marrone also still recovering from respective injuries.
