Andrea Barzagli has thanked Juventus for giving him the stage to catch the eye of Italy boss Cesare Prandelli.

The defender returned to the international scene last month, less than a year after moving back to Italy following a spell in Germany.

"Perhaps my name had been forgotten because I went to Wolfsburg, where I still had a good experience as we won the championship," he stated.

"Coming to Juve, however, is the maximum and I work every day to earn the right to wear this shirt."

Barzagli initially arrived as cover for Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, but he's now one of the first names on the teamsheet as his nine appearances from nine games so far this term demonstrate.

"We've started the campaign well," he stated of the club's current position as League leaders.

"It is thanks to the great work we underwent during pre-season and the fact that the new players have instantly settled in well.

"Being top is a nice feeling, but I fully believe that we deserve it. However, we're still just at the beginning and there's a lot more to do."

Juventus will be looking to maintain their Serie A position on Sunday night when they travel to Napoli.
