Lazio have reportedly identified Marco Baroni as their leading candidate to become the new head coach following Igor Tudor’s resignation.

The Croatian coach unexpectedly stepped away from his role with the Biancocelesti on Wednesday, handing in his resignation after failing to see eye to eye with club president Claudio Lotito, disagreeing about the direction of the project and the summer transfer market plans.

Lazio are now on the hunt for a new head coach, needing to quickly find a replacement as they work to set up their transfer window and build a new project ahead of the 2024-25 season. Tudor secured a sixth-place finish in his three months in charge, qualifying the club for the Europa League.

Baroni leading candidate for Lazio

Gianluca Di Marzio details how Baroni has become the leading candidate to take on the head coach job with Lazio, having impressed Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani during his time with Hellas Verona. The Veneto outfit picked up a 13th place finish in Serie A this term.

The Biancocelesti have also been linked with Massimiliano Allegri, who is able to take on a new role after agreeing his contract termination with Juventus.

  1. God NO. He should be the last!

The order is: Sarri back-with Luis Alberto gone and Ciro on the bench, he has the power he lacked before. Goundozi will stay, Rovella will flourish. Gila improved so much under him that other coaches wouldn’t be able to get the maximum out of them.

If Sarri doesn’t (and he could, because Lotito and him are surprisingly on good terms) than Sergio Cionceicao or give De Zerbi a chance.

If these 3 don’t happen, I’d rather have Allegrisaurus than Baroni, maybe even Klose !

Only if all these 5 fail should Lazio look to Baroni, a 60 year old whose greatest achievement is saving Hellas from relegation lst year. Come on…

  2. I would rather have Sarri backing the club rather than Klose and Baroni.
Lotito should give Sarri the players he’s asking for in the summer. Sarri gave us our best Serie A league finish in years. I don’t think he gets enough credit for that.
