Joe Barone says Fiorentina will sign new players in the coming days, but Jonathan Ikoné ‘won’t join Roma.’
There were reports Fiorentina and Roma had been working on a swap deal involving Ikone and Andrea Belotti, but the Viola CEO Barone has denied the two clubs will finalise an agreement.
“Jonathan Ikoné is not on the market and he won’t join Roma. He stays at Fiorentina,” Barone said during the program ‘Buongiorno Viola Park’ streamed by the club’s official YouTube channel.
“I ask the fans to support the team. Jonathan took responsibility to take a penalty kick when we were losing 1-0. He missed it and these things have consequences, but the group loves and supports him. The transfer market is made of details, and there will be new signings over the next few days.”
Ikone has been heavily criticised by Fiorentina fans lately. Not only has he just scored two goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season, but he also missed a penalty kick in a Supercoppa semi-final against Napoli last week.
The Frenchman had earned the spot kick against the Partenopei but then sent it over the crossbar.
Ikone, a former Lille winger, is contracted at the Stadio Franchi until June 2026.
With the 25-year-old expected to stay at the Stadio Franchi, Roma are looking to RB Leipzig winger Angeliño and have reportedly reached an agreement with the Spaniard, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.
